Mother Nature complied with our request for a windless morning for the Ride To The Rings Time Trial. Although the cyclists dealt with a harsh sun in their eyes while heading east from the Cool Out Bar area, they were able to pick up a little push from the increasing wind after the turnaround at Union/Mt. Washington for the return to Ha'Penny.
All three racing categories covered the same distance this morning, nearly 20k. Today's course served as a good measure of fitness for those who are training with the intentions to represent the VI in the Elite and Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships, which will be held in October and November, respectively.
Stephen Swanton knocked out the 12.2 miles (the actual distance) in 30:57 in the Elite category. Glenn Massiah was second in 32:01 and Sue Brown was third in 33:27.
Dominic Pugliese, who has been driving for just over a week now(!!), dominated the Expert field in 30:56. Mario Peters crossed the line with Dom but started in a position 2 minutes ahead of him, leaving Mario in second place in 32:56. Norbert Prospere was third.
James Meyers reined over the Sport category with is 36:00 finish. Hubert Abraham was second and Yves Abraham was third. Attached are the full results.
Tomorrow we will continue our tribute to Olympic Month with the Ride To The Rings Road Race. The Elite race will begin at 6:30am at Kaleidoscope; all other categories will begin at 7am

Endurance and strength were tested as the Elite group had the face St. Croix's east end loop three times, including a climb to the top of Point Udall on the first two laps. The trio of Stephen Swanton, David Parris and Robin Seila hung together for the first lap, coming through in 54:12. Very worthy of noting was that Robin reached the top of Udall first!!! Stephen dropped the two contenders on the second lap, which is when Glenn Massiah caught the duo. Glenn admits that Robin overtook him on the climbs, but then he overtook her on the descents. David called it quits on the final lap, leaving the finish order for the 48-mile race as Stephen in first place, Glenn in second and Robin in third.
The Expert group had one lap fewer to cover, a total of 30.5 miles. Dominic Pugliese, now 16 yrs old, lead the race right from the start. Ian Collins and Mikey Dizon-Bumann sat a few seconds back on the first lap. After missing his fuel in the feed zone for lap two, Dom dug deep and found a next gear. He rode like someone was chasing him and advanced nearly 5 minutes on the pair behind him. Dom finished first, Ian was second and Mikey was third.
The Sport/Women/Masters group rode the full east end loop, covering 13 miles in the counter-clockwise direction. James Meyers blazed the course in 42:13 and crossed first in the Sport division. Hubert Bartlett was second and Ralph Bartlett was third. Angela Cherkis out rode Judy Gario for first place in the Women's division. Joe Cherkis was the first place finisher in the Master's group.
